How do we compare
to other builders?
By answering the following questions you will be able to do an accurate comparison of The Jones Group to another builder. Listed below are the minimum materials and processes used to build all of our homes from the $300,000 price point and up.
1.) Will your new home be certified by Energy Star? Y N
Energy Star is the nationally accepted program for homes of exceptional energy efficiency. As of 2008, The Jones Group will build each of its custom homes using Energy Star standards. These standards require certification by an independant contractor (Metro First) who will verify that all of our homes are built to the rigorous Energy Star Program. This Program requires the use of advanced insulation techniques combined with energy efficient windows and heating and air equipment. This will translate into lower utility bills for all of our homeowners. Click on the Energy Star Link on our home page for further information
2.) Does the builder use a quiet floor system? Y N
The Jones Group uses Georgia Pacific I -Joists instead of 2" x 10"s which serve
to virtually eliminate floor squeaks. I-joists cost more, but they are worth the
price because they are all factory engineered to be equal in size, and they don't
warp or twist like 2" x 10"s. In addition, The Jones Group installs all sub-flooring
onto the I-joists with screws and glue, which is another step to prevent floor noise.
3.) Does the builder use weather resistant sub-floor? Y N
The Jones Group installs Weyerhouser Gold sub-floor which will not swell up, or come apart from rain, snow, or ice before the roof goes on your home. This provides a flatter floor, and also helps eliminate floor noise.
4.) Does the builder use Low-E Wood Windows with a Vinyl Clad Exterior? Y N
The Jones Group uses Weather Shield (Pro Shield) windows with a vinyl exterior and a wood interior. These windows are maintenance free on the outside, but can be painted/stained on the inside to match your interior trim. In addition to there attractive appearance they are also more energy efficient than the typical Vinyl/Alum window that other builders use. The wood interior frame of these windows is a better natural insulator than vinyl & aluminum, and the Low-E coating and Argon gas filling help reduce the transfer of heat or cold through the glass. The Low-E coating also helps protect your furniture and flooring from U.V. sunlight that can fade them.
5.) Does the builder use any of the following materials? Y N
All of the following materials greatly improve the quality, longevity, and attractiveness of your
home.
- Vinyl Clad wood windows with a Low-E glass coating and an Argon gas filling
- Thermal insulation barriers for bonus rooms and tubs/showers near exterior walls
- Insulated basement walls
- Weather tape around all windows, doors, and all seams on the exterior sheathing (To seal out moisture)
- Dow structural insulated exterior sheathing (instead of poorly insulated O.S.B. or plywood)
- 10 Year warranty for basement leaks
- Exposed Aggregate Concrete for sidewalks, front porch, and rear patio (on-walk out basements)

- 5/8" roof sheating (for a stronger roof)
- Ice guard flashing in all roof valleys
- Brick exteriors (siding is only used where necessary or by request)

6.) Does the builder have an experienced and dedicated Construction supervisor ?
Y N
The Jones Group offers Tim Manley, who has worked as a superintendant on over 1200+ homes in the Louisville area. Tim will review your home each day to make sure it is being contructed in a timely manner, and to our rigourous standards.
7.) Does the builder have an employee devoted to your one year warranty
period? Y N
The Jones Group has a Warranty Technician named Perry Smith who will complete the majority of the repairs and adjustments that your home will need during the first year. This greatly improves the speed at which warranty work is completed, and reduces the number of contractors who have to enter your home.
8.) Does the builder have sub-contractors that have worked with them
for decades? Y N
Most of the major sub-contractors that work for The Jones Group have been with us for more than ten years including: Framing crew, Plumber, Electrician, Heating and Air contractor, Drywall contractor, Cabinet supplier, Carpet installer, Shelving installer, and Trim carpenter.
9.) Does your builder provide the convenience of having one contact person during the entire sales, construction, and warranty process? Y N
With The Jones Group you will only need to know and trust one person. That person is Clay Jones. Clay will be with you throughout the entire process taking care of all questions and concerns. With some builders you will have to work with a different person (and personality) during each stage.
10.) Does the builder have the experience of building more than 180 custom
designed homes since 1998? Y N
By the end of 2008 The Jones Group will
have built more than 180 homes designed for the specific needs of each of their
customers. Most custom builders in this area build only 5 or 10 homes a year.
This means that since 1998 The Jones Group has gained as much as two to three times more experience than the competition.
11.) Does the builder have happy customers? Y N
The Jones Group does, and we would love to provide you with references to prove it. Please make sure you get references from any builder that you are considering.
